Missed Opportunites

We all get fixated on a particular way of doing things. “We’ve always done it this way”, “It’s always worked before” and sometimes when we hear things, we just dig our heels in and say “No, I’m not ever doing it this way, I will always use paper files."  Occasionally, well not occasionally, ALWAYS, this is to our detriment for 2 simple reasons:
  • ·   We miss new opportunities to improve
  • ·   We miss opportunities to prove our way works

I recently came upon an instance that I have dug in on hard for three years, and it bit me in the ass. I almost walked away from 2 clients over this (it was a full moon~ I’m blaming that, rather than me just being THAT stupid)

When someone said to me “prove” it, I couldn’t really do it. I fundamentally DO NOT AGREE, but I couldn’t prove my case.   Finally, a friend said ~shrug it off~. If you know you’re right prove it, using the same “metrics” they are using to prove it works.

So I learned a few things over the course of 2 weeks-
  • ·   Always have proof of your methodology
  • ·   Stop digging your heals in
  • ·   Never miss an opportunity prove or disprove someone else’s theory either for yourself or for them.

AND SO BEGINS MY CASE STUDY !!
